I hadn’t seen an Altman movie in a long time. (Think the last one was Nashville, perhaps five years ago?) I still love his naturalistic style. I also love the several levels this film works at simultaneously: a Hitchcock-style thriller, a satire of movies about making movies, a (very light) critique of Hollywood… I came in expecting the movie would eventually involve a “your reality is a movie and vice-versa” theme but I was surprised at how quickly it came about, and how well Altman would deliver on that premise.
