I really wanted to enjoy this but it never worked for me. Gary Oldman is miscast (and not just because he’s too old for the role, though that contributes a lot); the movie ostensibly wants to hark back to 30s and 40s filmmaking, but it really feels more like it was made in 60s; and for a movie about a screenwriter, the writing is very weak. There are some enjoyable bits but mostly it fell flat.
