Jules and Jim. May 20, 2020

This is nouvelle vague at its best: liberal use of cinematic techniques that draw attention to themselves (the first few times I saw a freeze frame I thought it was my computer hanging) without feeling gratuitous, bold characters, fast pacing, and a focus on basic questions of human existence. The characters are often doing less than honorable things, but the way the film portrays them has a transcendental kind of lightness that I think is unparallelled.
