The Battle of Algiers. May 25, 2020

This is of course a hugely important film (it’s clearly a big influence on Z, one of my favorite movies, and continues to be influential in more modern times: the Pentagon screened it in the wake of the Iraq war) and everyone should watch it, but there’s a scene in it that alone makes it worth watching: Ben M’hidi, one of the revolutionary leaders, is arrested by the French paratroopers, and they bring him to have a chat with the foreign media. I don’t know if such a scene actually occurred in real life, but the mere concept of having a revolutionary giving a press conference makes (among many other things) this film truly special.
