As a Brazilian, for a long time I refrained from watching this movie because there’s been so much debate about what it’s saying about Brazilian society (and beyond), and I’m honestly not very interested in that debate. But now I’ve finally watched the movie, and while it does feel like so much in it is there to provoke debate (especially if you see the whole thing as an allegory), it also works on other levels. All in all, it’s really fun and the village has a richness to it that I haven’t seen in many movies. You don’t need a course in Brazilian society to enjoy this.

★★★½☆
