This is a bit more careful and calculated than other Mike Leigh movies I’ve seen (save Topsy-Turvy, I guess), but still feels so real and genuine. The core emotional component was an easy sell for me, since the notion of growing old alone is something I think about often. I also loved the subtle class undertone, which permeates the whole movie without being too overt.
